For his final concert as Music Director of St Albans Choral Society, George Vass led a fabulous performance of Joseph Haydn’s magnum opus, The Creation. A three-part oratorio composed in 1798, it celebrates the creation of the world as depicted in Milton’s Paradise Lost and the book of Genesis. Complete with a cast of characters and something of a cinematic orchestral score, the work plays out as a musical drama, changing landscapes and scenes summoned one after the other.
St Albans Choral Society was joined by Sophia Jin (soprano), Matthew Sotillo-Cooke (tenor), Robert Rice (baritone) and the Blaze Ensemble.
